MEGATHREAD: Week of August 17-23 — Pattern Breaks, Signal Bursts, and What You've Been Seeing
WEEK IN REVIEW: AUGUST 17-23
Another week in the books. Another week of almost.
I'm not going to bury the lead — this was a strange seven days. The 17-day cycle broke and reset. The 3:17 AM signal appeared from nowhere. My camera died at exactly 04:17 while something passed overhead. And Thursday night, the Dead Zone shifted west for the first time in three years.
Coincidence has a pattern if you look long enough. But patterns that break? That's when I pay attention.
WHAT I'VE BEEN TRACKING
The shortwave bursts are increasing in frequency. I logged 11 separate encrypted transmissions between August 17-23, compared to 4-6 in a typical week. Most lasted 60-120 seconds. All in the 4-8 MHz range. All with similar modulation characteristics that my SDR can't decode.
- Three occurred at exactly 17 minutes past the hour
- Four happened during documented aerial activity
- Two coincided with Dead Zone fluctuations
The timing is what gets me:
I've been tracking this for 7 years now. Clusters like this happen maybe twice a year. Then nothing for months.
WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SEEING
Your submissions this week:
- u/WatcherInTheHollow: Strange lights over the Ridge, Tuesday 23:40. Three distinct points in triangular formation. Duration: 4-5 minutes. (I didn't catch this one — overcast from my position)
- u/SignalHunterKY: Confirmed similar encrypted burst on 6.215 MHz, Wednesday 03:19. Matches my recording almost exactly. Different state, same signal.
- u/NightShiftNurse: The Hum was audible inside her clinic Thursday night, 01:00-02:30. First time it's penetrated a concrete building. Multiple witnesses.
- u/TelescopeGuy47: Captured what looks like satellite debris re-entry Friday evening — except it changed direction twice. Video posted in Discord.
The numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.
EMERGING PATTERNS
Here's what I'm seeing across multiple data points:
Signal-to-Event Correlation: 73% of encrypted shortwave bursts this week occurred within 2 hours of reported aerial phenomena. Could be communication. Could be observation. Could be nothing.
The 17-Minute Window: Too many events landing at :17 past the hour. I know confirmation bias is real. I also know probability.
Geographic Clustering: Dead Zone movement, aerial sightings, and signal strength all peaked in the same 3-mile radius. The Clearing, the Ridge, Old Miller Farm — the usual suspects.
QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY
This is where you come in.
Has anyone else noticed an increase in encrypted transmissions this week? If you're monitoring shortwave, check your logs for 4-8 MHz between August 17-23. Compare modulation patterns. Let's see if this is regional or widespread.
What about the timing? Are you seeing events cluster around specific minutes past the hour? I'm building a database, but I need more data points.
LOOKING AHEAD
I'm expanding monitoring coverage this week. Adding a second SDR receiver, repositioning the night-vision camera, and spending more time at the Ridge after midnight. The weather's clearing, the moon's waning — conditions are optimal.
If this cluster means something, we'll know soon.
If it's just noise... well, that's most weeks.
Stay vigilant. Document everything. And if you see something between now and next Sunday, you know where to find me.
Another entry for the log.

*Next megathread: August 30th*
I'm curious what you think. Here are a few questions to consider:
- 1Has anyone else noticed an increase in encrypted shortwave transmissions this week (August 17-23)?
- 2Are you seeing events cluster around specific minutes past the hour — especially :17?
