The 17-Day Cycle — Seven Years of Data Points to Tomorrow Night

I need to show you something.

Seven years ago today, I logged my first unexplained aerial contact from The Clearing. Three lights in a loose triangle formation, silent, moving against the wind. I've told that story before. What I haven't told you is what I found when I finally built the database.

I've been tracking this for 7 years now — every observation, every anomaly, every night the equipment picks up something I can't immediately explain. 412 entries. Dates, times, coordinates, atmospheric conditions, radio interference patterns, witness reports from Old Harold and others.

Last month I finally wrote the script to analyze it all.

The numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.

Here's what the data shows:

  • 87 entries qualify as "significant" — phenomena I couldn't explain with weather, satellites, or conventional aircraft
  • Of those 87, **71 occurred on dates that are exact multiples of 17 days from August 9th, 2019**
  • That's 81.6% correlation
  • The remaining 16 events? 9 of them fall on multiples of 34 days (17×2). Another 4 fall on day 51 intervals (17×3)
  • Only 3 events in seven years break the pattern entirely

I've checked this six different ways. Different counting methods, different significance thresholds, different start dates. The 17-day cycle holds.

Tomorrow night — August 10th, 2026 at approximately 21:30 — marks day 2,584. That's 17 × 152.

## THE MUNDANE EXPLANATION

I'm an engineer. I know about confirmation bias. I know about pattern-seeking behavior in random data.

Here's the honest truth: if you log enough events and pick the right parameters, you can make almost anything look cyclical. Maybe I'm unconsciously more vigilant on the "right" nights. Maybe atmospheric conditions follow a pattern tied to lunar cycles or seasonal jet stream positions, and 17 days just happens to sync with that. Maybe I'm seeing what I want to see after years of searching without proof.

The statistical significance tests I can run are limited by sample size. 87 events sounds like a lot, but for robust pattern analysis, it's barely adequate. A professional statistician might laugh at my methodology.

And yet.

## WHAT I CAN'T EXPLAIN

Old Harold doesn't know about the 17-day cycle. I've never told him. But when I asked him yesterday when he last saw the lights, he checked his calendar and said "mid-July, maybe the 23rd."

July 23rd, 2026 was day 2,567. That's 17 × 151.

The Hum — that low-frequency sound that started up again last week — began on August 3rd. Day 2,577. You can do the math.

I've got fresh batteries in everything. Three cameras covering different angles. The SDR gear monitoring six frequency bands simultaneously. My notebooks ready. If something happens tomorrow night, I'll document it like I always do.

But here's what keeps me up tonight: in seven years of watching, I've never successfully predicted an event before it happened. I've found patterns in retrospect, sure. But prediction? That's different. That's testable.

Tomorrow I'll know if the pattern is real, or if I've spent seven years building an elaborate monument to my own bias.

The sky doesn't lie, but it doesn't show you everything either.
