In seven years of tracking this thing, the frequency has never changed.
The Equipment Failure
Here's where it gets interesting. I've got three separate recording systems running simultaneously: a calibrated spectrum analyzer, a modified SDR setup for sub-audible frequencies, and a basic digital recorder as backup. All three show the same thing at 22:47: a flat line. Complete silence. No data.

Military exercises at Arnold Air Force Base, about 60 miles west, could generate low-frequency sound that travels this far. If they were testing something new — different engine configurations, experimental propulsion — that could explain both the frequency shift and potential interference with my recording gear.
And human perception is notoriously unreliable. In the moment, convinced I was hearing something significant, my brain might have exaggerated the change. Harold's a good man, but he's 74 and has been hearing The Hum for decades. We could both be experiencing age-related hearing changes.
What Doesn't Add Up
But here's what bothers me: three independent recording systems, different power sources (one battery-powered), all going silent at the exact same second? The odds of simultaneous random failure are slim.
And I've been doing this for seven years now. I know the difference between imagination and observation. I know what equipment failure looks like. I know when to trust my senses and when to doubt them.
Last night, something changed. Whether it was atmospheric, mechanical, or something else entirely — the numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.
I'll be out there again tonight. Same equipment, same location, same watch. If it happens again, I'll have confirmation. If it doesn't — well, another entry for the log.
