The Return Pattern — Eighteen Minutes, Always Eighteen Minutes
Night one: January 8th, 02:47
I was out at The Clearing doing routine sky watch when the first light appeared. Due east, maybe 40 degrees above the horizon. Not a star — stars don't pulse with that rhythm. Not a plane — the movement was too deliberate, too slow. It traced an arc from east to northeast over the course of about four minutes, then blinked out.
I noted it in the log. Interesting, but not unprecedented. Could've been a satellite catching sunlight at a weird angle. Could've been atmospheric refraction playing tricks with Venus.
Then at 03:05 — eighteen minutes later — it happened again.
Same point of origin. Same arc. Same pulsing pattern. Same four-minute duration before it vanished.
Night two: January 9th, 02:47
I was ready this time. Camera mounted, fresh batteries, clear sky.
The light appeared. Same position, same behavior. I got it on video — or I thought I did. When I reviewed the footage this morning, there's a 47-second gap right when the light should've been brightest. Camera didn't shut off. Memory card wasn't full. The timestamp jumps from 02:49:13 to 02:50:00 with nothing in between.
The numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.
At 03:05, the light returned. This time I just watched it with my own eyes. No equipment. No recording. Just me and whatever that was.
Night three: January 10th, 02:47
Three is the number that matters. Things happen in threes.
Same light. Same pattern. Same eighteen-minute return. I timed it with three different devices — my watch, my phone, the GPS unit. All confirmed: 18 minutes exactly between the first appearance and the second.
I've been tracking this for 7 years now, and I've never seen a return pattern this precise. Most aerial phenomena I document are one-offs, or if they repeat, it's over weeks or months, not minutes.

The mundane explanation:
There's a military installation 60 miles southwest of here. They run night exercises. Drones equipped with LED arrays for training purposes could absolutely create this effect. The 18-minute interval could be the time it takes to complete a circuit, refuel, or swap batteries.
The camera malfunction? Electronic interference from whatever propulsion system they're using. The precision of the timing? Military operations are nothing if not precise.
That would explain everything.
Except:
Why the same 47-second gap in the recording? Why always at the moment of peak brightness? And why does this feel different from the dozen other times I've written off lights as military?
I can't prove it's not a drone. I won't claim it's something else. But after all these years of watching — after all the false alarms and dead ends and nights that yielded nothing — you develop a sense for when something doesn't fit the pattern.
This doesn't fit.
Tonight's January 11th. I'll be at The Clearing at 02:30. If the light appears again, that's four nights. If it doesn't, maybe it was exactly what I said — training exercises that wrapped up their cycle.
Another entry for the log. Another almost.
