The Same Cloud Formation — 11 Days in a Row, Same Position, Same Time

I don't claim to be a meteorologist. Twenty years as an engineer taught me to read technical manuals, not weather patterns. But I know what consistency looks like, and I know when something repeats beyond statistical comfort.

For the past eleven days, the same cloud formation has appeared over the western ridge at exactly 19:47.

Not approximately. Not around that time. Exactly 19:47.

It's a lenticular formation — lens-shaped, smooth edges, the kind that forms when wind flows over mountains. Textbook stuff. Except the wind patterns don't support it. I've been checking NOAA data, barometric readings, wind speed and direction from three different sources. The atmospheric conditions that create lenticulars haven't been present on seven of those eleven nights.

And it's always in the same position. Same altitude angle from my observation point. Same orientation. Same duration — roughly 23 minutes before it dissipates or drifts beyond the tree line.

THE PATTERN:

  • November 4th: 19:47 — Formation appears, persists 22 minutes
  • November 5th: 19:47 — Formation appears, persists 24 minutes
  • November 6th: 19:47 — Formation appears, persists 23 minutes
  • November 7th: 19:47 — Formation appears, persists 23 minutes
  • [Pattern continues through November 14th]

I've photographed it each night. Same camera, same position, same settings. The images overlay almost perfectly when I run them through alignment software. The deviation is less than 2 degrees across all eleven nights.

That's not how clouds work.

I checked my logs going back three years. Nothing like this. Lenticulars appear maybe six, seven times a year here, always under specific conditions, never with this kind of regularity. The numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.

ALTERNATIVE EXPLANATION:

I'm not ruling out observer bias. When you watch the sky every night for seven years, you start seeing patterns everywhere. Maybe I'm catching the tail end of different formations at similar times. Maybe the camera angle is creating an illusion of consistency. Maybe atmospheric conditions at exactly 19:47 create a brief window where lenticular formation is possible, and I'm just not sophisticated enough in my meteorological understanding to recognize it.

The rational explanation: I'm seeing what I want to see. A pattern where there's natural variation.

But here's what bothers me — I've been doing this long enough to know what confirmation bias feels like. This doesn't feel like that. This feels like precision.

I've been tracking this for 7 years now, and I've learned to trust my instruments more than my instincts. But when the instruments keep showing the same thing, night after night, at military precision timing...

Tonight is night twelve. I'll be at the Clearing at 19:45.

Are there atmospheric conditions that could create identical lenticular formations at precise intervals that I'm missing?

And if this is natural — why does it stop and start with such clean boundaries? Eleven days on. Then what? Eleven days off?
