I was monitoring 7.200 MHz — a frequency I've tracked for three years because of its recurring anomalies — when the signal came through.
Not static. Not atmospheric noise. A structured digital transmission that lasted exactly 91 seconds, then cut off mid-burst.
I've heard a lot of things on shortwave. Ham operators, numbers stations, military chatter that's clearly military. This wasn't any of those.
## WHAT I RECORDED
The transmission had these characteristics:
- **Phase-shift keying** — digital modulation, not voice
- **Repeating 17-bit header** before each data packet
- **Three distinct burst patterns**, each separated by 3.4 seconds of silence
- **Abrupt termination** — no sign-off, no carrier fade
I ran it through every decoding software I have. Nothing. Either it's encrypted with something beyond hobbyist tools, or it's a data format I don't recognize.
The numbers don't lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth either.
## THE PATTERN
This is the fourth time I've logged a transmission on 7.200 MHz with this exact structure. The previous three:
- July 13th, 2026 — 03:17 UTC
- June 29th, 2026 — 22:47 UTC
- June 12th, 2026 — 01:03 UTC
Every 17 days. Every time in the middle of the night. Every time lasting between 89-93 seconds.
Coincidence has a pattern if you look long enough.
## THE MUNDANE EXPLANATION
Here's what a rational person would say — and I've been that rational person for seven years now:
7.200 MHz sits in the 40-meter amateur band, but it's also used for military MARS stations and federal emergency networks. The timing could align with automated data dumps from weather stations, satellite telemetry relays, or encrypted military exercises.
The 17-day cycle? Could be maintenance schedules. Equipment testing. Orbital mechanics if it's satellite-based.
The encryption? Standard practice for anything government-related.
That explanation fits. It's clean. It requires no leap of faith.
## BUT
I've monitored military frequencies for two decades. I worked with encrypted comms in my engineering days. This doesn't feel like standard protocol traffic.
The timing is too precise. The burst structure is too clean. And why always cut off mid-transmission? Why no preamble, no identification, no carrier wave that lingers even half a second?
And here's the thing that keeps me up: The last three transmissions occurred within 20 minutes of aerial activity over the Clearing. Not during. Not hours before. Within 20 minutes.
Maybe that's confirmation bias. Maybe I'm seeing connections because I want to. Seven years of watching the sky, and I still don't have proof of anything beyond the ordinary.
But the signal-to-noise ratio is getting worse — or maybe it's getting better, and I just don't like what I'm starting to hear.
