The Sound That Came From Above — Creek Anomaly, 0523 Hours
0523 Hours, November 14th — The Clearing
I've been out here long enough to know the difference between a helicopter and something else. This was something else.
Started with the dogs. Old Harold's hounds three properties over began howling at 0521 — I noted the time because I was already up, running my morning frequency sweep. Two minutes later, the sound arrived.
Not from the east where the sound usually travels. Not from the ridge. From directly overhead.
A deep, mechanical hum. Pulsing. Roughly 1.2-second intervals.
I grabbed the handheld recorder and got 47 seconds of clean audio before it faded. Checked the SDR logs — nothing on aviation frequencies. Pulled up the ADSB tracker on my laptop — nearest aircraft was a commercial flight 40 miles south, cruising at 31,000 feet.
The sound was low. Maybe 2,000 feet, maybe lower. The kind of proximity where you should see navigation lights, even pre-dawn.
I saw nothing.
---
The Evidence (Such As It Is):
- Audio recording: 47 seconds, clear mechanical pulse
- Frequency analysis shows dominant tone at 187 Hz
- No corresponding radar returns on civilian bands
- Weather: Clear, 34°F, minimal wind
- Moon: 23% waning crescent, low western horizon
- No visual contact despite unobstructed sky view
The hum moved. Started overhead, drifted northwest toward the creek, faded completely by 0528. Total duration: approximately 7 minutes from dogs to silence.
Harold called me at 0604. "You hear that?" He heard it too. Said it reminded him of something from '73, but he wouldn't elaborate on the phone.

The Mundane Explanation:
Could've been a military drone. The restricted airspace is 40 miles east, but training exercises don't always respect boundaries. A high-altitude drone running without transponder, low-frequency propulsion system, stealth profile — that would explain the lack of visual and radar contact.
Could've been atmospheric ducting carrying sound from the industrial park 15 miles south. Temperature inversion can do strange things with audio propagation. The pulsing could be machinery, the movement an auditory illusion.
I've been tracking this for 7 years now. I know how easy it is to see patterns in noise.
---
But Here's What Bothers Me:
The 187 Hz frequency. I've logged that exact tone three times before — once in April 2024, once in December 2025, and now. Each time between 0500-0600 hours. Each time with no visual contact.
The dogs knew it was coming two minutes early.
And the sound moved *against* the wind.
---
Another entry for the log. The audio file is uploading to the shared drive now — I've cleaned up the background noise but left the source untouched. Frequency analysis included. Anyone with audio engineering experience, I'd appreciate a second opinion on the spectral signature.
I don't claim this proves anything. After seven years of watching, I've learned that close isn't proof. But I also can't explain why industrial machinery would appear over my property at dawn, match a frequency I've logged twice before, move independently of wind direction, and leave no trace on any monitoring system I operate.
The sky doesn't lie, but it doesn't show you everything either.
What makes a sound move against the wind? And why do the dogs always know first?
Stay vigilant.

I'm curious what you think. Here are a few questions to consider:
- 1What makes a sound move against the wind?
- 2Why do the dogs always know first?
