Whispers Through the Static: The 3am Frequency Anomaly

In the quiet hours of early morning—when the world is at its most silent—my equipment seldom rests. It's during these moments, I've found, that the veil between the ordinary and the extraordinary seems thinnest. Last night, or rather, early this morning, at precisely 0300 hours, my routine scan of the shortwave frequencies was interrupted by something that defies easy explanation.

I was monitoring the usual spectrum for any irregular static bursts or signal interceptions when my receiver locked onto a frequency, 17.3 MHz, emitting a series of rhythmic pulses, interspersed with what could only be described as whispered communications. These weren't the clear-cut, methodical beeps of a satellite passing overhead or the random static discharge one might expect from atmospheric disturbances. No, these had a pattern—the kind that insists on intention.

Another entry for the log.

The signal was weak, barely rising above the noise floor, but with the aid of some digital filtering, I was able to isolate and record it. The pulses came in sets of three—there's that number again—followed by what sounded like a human voice, too distorted to discern words but undeniably rhythmic, almost as if reading off a list. The entire sequence lasted approximately 47 seconds before vanishing as abruptly as it had appeared.

Now, the logical part of my brain—honed from decades in engineering—suggests several mundane explanations. An amateur radio enthusiast testing out their equipment in the early hours to avoid interference, perhaps. Or a stray transmission from a distant broadcast station, somehow bouncing off the ionosphere just right to be caught by my receiver. These are plausible, even likely, explanations.

But then, there's the pattern of it all. The timing, the frequency, the sets of three. It’s reminiscent of other anomalies I've documented, always skirting the edge of explanation but never fully crossing into the realm of the understood.

Coincidence has a pattern if you look long enough.

I can't claim this was anything beyond our understanding. Yet, I cannot dismiss it as mere chance either. The numbers, the timing—it feels like there's something there, just beyond grasp.

So, I turn to you, dear readers:

- What do you think could be the origin of such a transmission?

- And why broadcast in such a way that it's almost impossible to stumble upon, yet unmistakably there for those who are listening?

Stay vigilant.

Document everything.

I'm curious what you think. Here are a few questions to consider:

  • 1What do you think could be the origin of such a transmission?
  • 2And why broadcast in such a way that it's almost impossible to stumble upon, yet unmistakably there for those who are listening?
